LoCash’s latest single, “Talking ’Bout,” takes a pretty simple idea and turns it into a big-hearted country love song. During their appearance on Backstage Country with John Shomby, Chris Lucas and Preston Brust explained how the track came together—and why the song ultimately became a tribute to the women who mean the most to them.
LoCash: It Started With a Title
The song began at Blake Bollinger’s home studio, where Brust, Bollinger and co-writer Nate Kenyon worked on ideas while Lucas joined the session over Zoom from Tampa.
Kenyon arrived with the title “Talking ’Bout,” and the idea immediately grabbed the group. From there, the writers started building the song around the things people talk about when they're passionate about something.
For Lucas, the concept eventually landed on something much more personal. “We started writing these lyrics, just talking about the— the best thing in life, and that's— that's our girls, man. That's our wives, and, you know, that significant other. You— you could talk about a bunch of things, but when I'm talking about a girl, I'm talking about you,” he explained.
Rather than simply writing another generic love song, LoCash wanted to celebrate the women in their lives—their wives and significant others—and the role they play in keeping their families together.
The Women Are the Heroes
Brust expanded on the idea and explained that the song uses specific examples to establish what someone means when they talk about their favorite things. “If I'm talking about baseball, I'm talking about the Braves. If I'm talking about George, I'm talking about Strait. If I'm talking about a girl, I'm talking about you.”
He added, “And we've got great girls in our lives. They're heroes to us. They wear the capes. They're the superheroes that keep the house a home.”
Even the Baseball Lyrics Became a Joke
The writing session also produced one of those funny little complications that probably wouldn't survive every songwriting room. The song references the Atlanta Braves, but neither Lucas nor Brust actually supports the team.
The reason is simple: the song was written with Georgia-based writers who loved the Braves, and the name fit the lyric. The duo joked, “Maybe we'll just cut special versions for the Rays and the Cubs, just for Chicago and Tampa.”
