“In On It”

Barrett shared the first time she heard the track. “The song was pitched to me. The writers are John Knight, Jimmy Robbins, and Jimmy Bell. Exactly. Kind of what you said. I heard it and immediately was like, this is a song that I would write and definitely want to get behind,” she explained.

The Pennsylvania native said that she loved the song’s message. “I found it really encouraging for the message behind this song and want to show it to other people. And I really fell in love with it because it talks about trusting God's plan in your life even when things don't make sense.”

She added that the song resonated with her especially during those moments of uncertainty, and you wish to have the answers in front of you. “I know that I have been in scenarios and still continue to just like, ‘Oh, Lord, I just don't really understand what’s going on here.’ Or I just don't get what's going on in my life. And I honestly don't get how this is going to make sense. You know what I mean? But just realizing the author has not handed us the script to see how everything unfolds, but I look back on some of those moments now, and I can actually pick out some valuable things.”

“The Good Ones”

Since she released “The Good Ones” on her debut studio album. Goldmine, in 2020, Smith asked if the song inspired by her husband, fellow Idol contestant Cade Foehner, still rings true to this day.  “For sure. I mean, ‘The Good Ones’ is one that still hits very near and dear to me. I've been married for this year, will be seven years, so I know it's been so much. It's been so much fun, too.”

“And he really is, like, not to be cliché,” Barrett chuckled, “But he really is, like, a good one. And when we were writing this song in the room, it was, I think, three other writers, and I was the fourth. I just loved the message of it immediately.”
