Brett James

Everything you never wanted to know about Brett James…

Brett-Man was born in Joplin and raised in Galena. It was while he was attending high school in Galena that he met and began harassing a program director at a local radio station. No kidding, Brett annoyed his way into an overnight shift! He proved to be a quick-study and a natural talent. After about eight months on the air, his voice finally changed! His program director took that opportunity to move Brett to the mid-day show. Brett spent a couple of years building his resume and honing his talent, and in 1988 moved to Zimmer Radio, specifically Kix. Yes, you read that correctly… Brett has been with Kix for 19 years! He is now the master of the afternoons from 2pm to 7pm.

Brett has had the pleasure of doing so many great things and meeting some really amazing people over the course of his tenure at Kix. Some of his favorite moments have been meeting people like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Reba McIntire, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Toby Keith, Clay Walker, and Martina McBride. He says Aaron Tippin is one of the kindest country artists he’s met and still plays golf with Mark Miller from Sawyer Brown when schedules permit. He met Travis Tritt when Travis Tritt was still praying for a record deal. Brett regards him as one of his best friends, and Travis calls when he’s coming through town and they still get together to catch up. As much as Brett loves all genres of music, he is also passionate about sports. He loves the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and is loyal to the KU Jayhawks.   He spends much of his spare time golfing with friends.

Brett lives here in Joplin with his wife of ten years. He enjoys cultivating his garden in the evenings and on weekends. Kix is never far from his mind, though. The scarecrow in his garden is proudly clad in a Kix t-shirt! Brett loves to vacation, especially in the Virgin Islands. Prior to his last trip in April, Brett began jogging in an effort to shed a few pounds. He is now a certified “jog-a-holic.” He jogs before work, often on his lunch break, and sometimes after his workday is through. He needs to be in a support group… soon.
