Over the past week, the inside of the new Joplin high school has really transformed after crews went into overdrive getting it ready to open Tuesday morning. The start of school had to be delayed since the temporary occupancy permit for the gym hadn't been received in time. Superintendent Dr. CJ Huff gave News Talk KZRG an update on what still needs to be done.
"We still have some work to do on the site of the performing arts center. It's not scheduled for completion until February at the latest. The gymnasium still has some work to be done in there, other than that, it's just little odds and ends."
Huff says seeing the doors finally open has been a relief.
"I was really excited and relieved. This day has been a long time coming, and for our school district, it's been a huge step forward for us in getting to this day. We're looking forward to getting back to normal, whatever normal used to be, so were excited about that."
Joplin High has approximately 2200 students.
