Almost 5,000 Empire District Electric customers lost service overnight due to some strong storms that pushed through the Four States region. Empire's Julie Maus tells News Talk KZRG when we can expect to see the lights come back on:
"Linemen hope to have most of the repair work completed by noon today; there may be some smaller areas that will see outages continue into this afternoon, but they'll keep at it."
Maus says the damage is "widespread" throughout Empire's service areas in Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri.
Update: 3:35pm: Empire's Julie Maus says some 1150 customers are still without power this afternoon. They're in the southwest Joplin, Redings Mill and Duquesne areas. Maus says at the peak of the storm, almost 7000 Empire customers were without power.
