Empire District Electric is celebrating a major milestone. The company announced Tuesday that their employees have worked two million hours without a lost-time injury. The previous record was 1.5 million work hours.Tiffany Haney with the Safety Council of the Ozarks tells News Talk KZRG it's a tremendous accomplishment.
"It's a very high achievement in the electrical industry. It's one of the most dangerous industries as far as working with electricity."
Empire's Pete Babb says the injury-free period dates back to April of last year.
"It's been about 16 months straight that no one's been injured that they have to be off the job. We've got about 10,000 square miles that we cover, so we've got a lot of service territory that we're taking care of, and so we've got people in each location called team safety leaders."
The 105 year old company currently employs more than 750 people.
