Man Unsure How He Was Shot Twice

A 44-year-old man is in recovery after suffering two gunshot wounds early this morning. Newton County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 3500 block of Cherry Road just southwest of Joplin around 5 a.m. Police found Tommy Webb sitting inside his car, and appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Sheriff Ken Copeland tells News Talk KZRG they're still trying to figure out what happened since the victim gave multiple accounts of the story.

"The first account he gave was that he picked up a hitch hiker, and the hitch hiker shot him. The second account was that some unknown person just walked up to his car, and shot him while he was in his car."

In the third account, Webb says he was shot while walking through the woods by an unknown suspect.

One thing police do know for sure, is that Webb was not shot in his vehicle.

"He was actually found in his car, but there's no indication that he was shot in the car, so at this time, we're still trying to figure where the incident did actually occur."

No description of the suspect is being given at this time. News Talk KZRG will bring you more information as details are released.
