Ozark Center Coordinator Among Trainees at Special "Zero Suicide Academy"

A local health official got some unique training recently. Debbie Fitzgerald, Coordinator of Crisis Services at the Ozark Center in Joplin, tells News Talk KZRG about her experience at the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention's first-ever Zero Suicide Academy in Washington DC.

"A lot of it was finding out what's helpful to people having a crisis, and then incorporating some of these new best practices, some of these evidence-based approaches."

The Ozark Center trained more than 2,000 people locally last year in how to respond to and prevent suicides, and Fitzgerald's three-person team was one of only 16 chosen to attend the special training.
