Crawford County Fire Departments Receive FEMA Grant
Firefighters in Crawford County were ecstatic to find out they'd been awarded $683,400 in FEMA grant money to purchase 86 new air packs. The money will be spread out between nine departments in the county. In the past few years, only 8% of the Kansas' departments have been successful in receiving grant money. Girard Fire Chief Chase Waggoner tells News Talk KZRG it wasn't a simple process.
"We had to collect quite a bit of information from all of the impacted departments as far as what their annual budget was, how many fire calls they ran each year, population served. Compiled that data, along with a narrative explaining why we felt we were deserving of the grant."
This was the biggest fire grant to be awarded in both Kansas and Missouri this year.
