Since day one of Farmers Insurance partnership with Rebuild Joplin a year ago, the two groups have been compiling a Disaster Recovery Playbook to guide communities in the recovery process following a natural disaster. CEO Jeff Daily gave News Talk KZRG the details.
"This is really a playbook from A to Z. When a disaster strikes, it lists what communities need to do recover; how to contact the federal government, what kinds of emergency preparations they need to make, how to get volunteers, how to fund raise , and it is very detailed."
The insurance company says they were so inspired by Joplin, that they're expanding their community assistance to help those affected by Superstorm Sandy in Sea Bright, New Jersey. In addition to that announcement, Farmers says also awarded their first ever Resilient Community Award to Joplin, recognizing the city's drive, desire, and determination to rebuild after the May 2011 tornado. Mayor Michael Seibert tells News Talk KZRG, Farmers Insurance has been a game changer during this process.
"Rebuild Joplin at one point hit a wall as far as how they were going to be able to meet their goals and obligations, and that's when Farmers stepped in. They stepped in with financial resources, as well as volunteers. That's what I mean by game changer. We couldn't be where we are today without Farmers Insurance."
In addition to the award, Farmers also contributed another $50,000 to Rebuild Joplin; bring their financial contribution to $500,000.
