Always be prepared. That's the Girl Scout motto, and that's what more than 60 girl scouts from the four states took a lesson in on Saturday morning in order to earn their First Aid badge. The girls were taught how to prepare for disasters by seven different area emergency organizations. Volunteer Mavis Bowin tells News Talk KZRG what they learned.
"They learned about minor, and serious injuries, such as how to protect themselves from snake and spider bites. And how to handle tornadoes.
They also learned the basics of CPR and how to handle a choking victim, as well as put together their own first aid kit. Bowin says the organizers were so impressed with how much the girls learned.
"One of the instructors was amazed because she had a little quiz, and she said the first few girls that came through couldn't answer a lot of the questions, but by the end of the day the girls could answer every question on her quiz."
Bowin says the event was such a success that they plan to hold similar events in the future.
