Local Teacher Recognized By Farmers Insurance

As part of Farmers Insurance "Thank a Million Teachers" program, North Middle School teacher Kalan Hubbard was chosen by his peers to receive a special thank you from the company. Farmers Director of Community Relations Doris Dunn tells News Talk KZRG why Kalan Hubbard was the perfect candidate for the award.

"After the storm in 2011, he stopped his life and gave back to the community for weeks, and helped the victims of the storm. And after the Moore tornado, he was one of the first teachers in the Joplin school district to Moore."

Hubbard was proud to receive the recognition, but tells News Talk KZRG the way in which he found out was a nerve-racking experience.

"It was kind of scary because I didn't know what was going on. Anytime you get called to the principal's office, there's always some anxiety there. So I got called down, and the biggest thing for me was relief."

As a thank you from Farmers, Kalan received a check for classroom supplies, as well as a trip to Kansas City to attend Saturday's NASCAR Sprint Cup.
