In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, The Children's Center of Southwest Missouri was gifted more than $15,000, and car loads of toys for the kids they serve by Roper Kia in Joplin. The dealership offered free oil changes in exchange for a toy, as well as donated a portion of their car sales in April. Roper Kia owner, Jack Frost tells News Talk KZRG how many toys they collected last month.
"It ended up being a pretty big deal. Over 500 oil changes were given away, and there's way more toys then that here. We were also able to donate $15,500 to The Children's Center today."
The Center's Executive Director Kathi Olson was in awe of everything they received today. She tells News Talk KZRG what they'll be able to use the money for.
"We provide forensic interviews of child abuse victims, and medical evaluations. It takes a substantial amount of money to keep our doors open. We have four centers, so we provide services to children in twelve counties."
This was the second year Roper has done the toy drive; they expect to collect even more toys for the Children's Center next year.
