Area Businesses Give Back to Crowder College

Crowder College's Webb City campus is expanding. 22,000 square feet is being added to accommodate the booming student population. Joplin Industrial Electric donated $15,000 towards the expansion that'll pay for a conference room. The company's owner, Jeff Cartright tells News Talk KZRG why they chose to help Crowder.

"I looked at tuition prices compared to some of the other area schools, and some of the kids can't afford that. Crowder's got a lot of grants so I thought this would be the best place for our money."

Joplin Industrial Electric weren't the only ones feeling generous today. Cardinal Scale Manufacturing also wrote a check today for $40,000 for the expansion. The money will be put to good use funding a computer lab. President David Perry says giving to the school will only benefit him and other companies in the future.

" We use a lot of computers down at the plant and we have a lot of software engineers, so this will fit into our hiring practice. It'll be really important for us in the future to have these young people come up, and be well educated."

The new addition will also include a 9,000 square foot safe room, and nine classrooms.
