A Joplin high school teacher has been recognized by Governor Jay Nixon in his State of the State address for his outstanding work in the district. Tobin Shultz won the Milken Foundation award last fall for implementing the Link Crew program which pairs freshmen with juniors and seniors to help ease their transition into high school. Shultz tells News Talk KZRG why receiving the award was especially humbling.
"They do not allow an application or a nomination process. They do independent research and seek out people who they wish to recognize and honor."
Shultz was only one of nine teachers in the nation to receive the honor this year, along with a $25,000 cash prize.
