Strong winds and dry conditions can spell disaster for the Joplin Fire Department. Fire Chief Mitch Randles tells News Talk KZRG the smallest of fires can easily get out of control with todays windy condtions; the simplest solution to prevent a fire is to not do any outdoor burning.
"We're always against folks burning their trash. Secondly, it's always better to recycle those leaves to create mulch and then of course, Joplin has a limb pick-up. It's very, very much safer."
Randles says on windy days, they typically respond to an extra three calls a day.
