A McDonald County inmate died Wednesday after being taken off of life support at Freeman Hospital. 36-year-old Robert Mason of Anderson hung himself in his cell last Monday, but other inmates were able to find him still alive and peformed CPR, but he was unresponsive. Sheriff Mike Hall tells News Talk KZRG the inmate hadn't shown any warning signs of hurting himself.
"We listened to phone calls before-hand. Nothing had gone out, letters- anything like that. We had no prior warning that he was even thinking of anything like that."
Mason had been in jail since January 21st for manufacturing meth and endangering the welfare of a child.
