Unemployment Drops in Joplin

Joplin's unemployment rate is steadily dropping. Over the summer, unemployment was at 6%, in December it was at 5.3%. Jasen Jones with the Missouri Workforce Investment Board tells News Talk KZRG why Joplin is well below the national average.

"Joplin is well diversified. We have a lot of manufacturing, transportation and a lot in healthcare. Lots of entry-level positions available in retail, hospitality, and so forth."

Jones says a lot of the growth is still due to the recovery effort of the May 2011 tornado. A variety of businesses are still moving back to the area.
