One of several candidates for Joplin City Council wants more positive headlines for the City than negative ones. Miranda Lewis is running for one of the general seats that will be up for grabs in April; she tells News Talk KZRG Joplin's still got a spotlight on it.
"We have been the picture of how you do it (rebuilding after the May 2011 tornado), so to me, it's been disappointing to see some of the headlines we're getting right now. That's not Joplin. Joplin is the people, the citizens who are still here, who were here May 23rd, 2011."
Lewis says she wants to see Joplin become a destination city that people choose over Springfield, MO or Rogers, AR. She's perhaps best known in her role as spokesperson for Mercy Hospital in Joplin after the May 2011 tornado.
