The number of local patients with the flu seems to be on the rise. Dr. Ed Conrad of Joplin tells News Talk KZRG why:
"This is the time of year we see a big bump in flu cases. Those who got their flu shots early, like around Halloween, are seeing it wear off right about now. Plus, it's cold, more people are indoors and in close proximity, so you're more likely to catch something."
The best way to fight it is cleanliness, according to Conrad, like washing your hands frequently and sanitizing your workspace.
Last month, only six states nationwide had widespread flu outbreaks. Now it's about half of the country.
