The worst Congress ever. That's what a majority of Americans said in a recent CNN poll, with two-thirds of the public saying the 113th Congress has gotten almost nothing done. Missouri US Congressman Billy Long sees their point.
"People say we did a good job because we didn't let the Democrats get anything done, but other people say we're to blame because we didn't let anything get done. I'd rather people thank me for what I stopped from getting done than what I didn't get done myself."
Long tells News Talk KZRG he believes that 2014 won't be much better: it's an election year and lawmakers will be extra careful not to anger voters.
"No election year is ever very productive, and when they signed the two-year budget deal, they were tipping their hand, so to speak, saying 'we don't want anything to fight over, we want to get out there and get elected.'"
Less than 60 bills have been signed into law during the 113th Congress' first year.
