The Carthage Police Department will be holding their 38th annual Laverne Williams Memorial Children's Christmas Party two weeks from today at Carthage Memorial Hall. Police Chief Greg Dagnan tells News Talk KZRG how it all got started.
"Laverne Williams was one of our detectives here. He had the idea to, around Christmastime, he took some bikes that were sitting around in our evidence locker and about to be destroyed, and fixed them up and gave them to some kids he knew needed them as a Christmas present. It grew from there."
If you'd like to donate toward the party, which will be held for around 600 kids in need, stop by the Carthage Police Department.
