Use Tax Initiative Includes Internet Provision



A Use Tax ballot initiative for Joplin and Jasper County could mean an additional tax on your online purchases. Joplin Finance Director Leslie Haase tells News Talk KZRG how.

"If someone buys something on the Internet, a use tax will be applicable if they (the business) have a presence somewhere in our city."

Officials say next Tuesday's measure is needed to counter a loss of tax revenues that happens when people buy vehicles out of state. The tax would apply to all titled items. So far this year it's estimated that Jasper County's lost out on around $500,000. You can hear the full interview in our Featured Audio section.
