Missouri lawmakers are taking a close look this fall at a range of education issues, including student transfers, teacher evaluations and school safety. An interim House committee on education is holding hearings on those and other topics this week, including one in Joplin, according to State Representative Charlie Davis.
"Wednesday night we'll meet at Corley Auditorium at MSSU from 7pm to 10pm to talk about K-12 and higher education. It's not going to be local-specific, so if you have a beef with Joplin Schools, for example, don't come," Davis says. "It's going to be about how the state can improve education. We will be talking about common core, and we'll have local education officials in attendance as well."
The interim committee will also meetin in Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, and Branson this week.
