Joplin now has $5.7 million in tax credits to use toward redevelopment and recovery efforts. The Missouri Department of Economic Development awarded the credits to the Joplin Redevelopment Corporation Wednesday, according to Master Developer David Wallace.
"Yesterday, the deadline for the tax credit program was 5pm. At 4:59, we got a letter of approval from the State. Our hope is, based on our conversations with them, is that we'll be able to start selling those next month. That'll bring in $5.1 million of unrestricted cash coming into the Joplin Redevelopment Corporation."
The JRC will then use that money for redevelopment efforts and projects to boost and expand Joplin's economy.
