Webb City Schools Approved for Carterville Safe Room
The Webb City R-7 School District was recently given approval for a seventh community safe room at Carterville Elementary.
The 12,210 square foot safe room, available for public use with a capacity of 1,391 occupants, will be added to the east end of the current Carterville Elementary School building.
FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding will pay 75 percent of the cost of the large-scale tornado shelter built to withstand F5 tornados.
The school district will be responsible for the remaining cost.
"We're excited to have been given the green light to begin the process of this additional safe room project for the Carterville campus," says Dr. Anthony Rossetti, Superintendent.
Rossetti said the district is thrilled to have the opportunity to offer a level of safety and security that normally would be beyond the district's financial capability. Expanding the district's facilities with seven additional buildings frees up current classroom space and also meets the needs of future generations.
