MSSU is well on their way in the construction phase of a new athletic field house at Fred G. Hughes Stadium. The $9.4 million facility will house locker rooms, weight and training rooms, as well as meeting rooms, and offices. Athletic Director Jared Bruggeman tells News Talk KZRG Southern is moving in the right direction.
"The reality is that people are somewhat surprised that we're building it. It's been talked about, obviously, for quite some time. Missouri Southern is moving in the right direction. It takes a while to get momentum for that, but we're really moving ahead."
It's being funded primarily by donors to the Robert W. Plaster Foundation. The Davidson family donated more than $100,000, which will be used to buy furniture. Richard Davisdon tells News Talk KZRG why this project is so important.
"It's a great addition to the athletic program, but Southern as a whole will benefit. This is a way we can give back to help Missouri Southern to be more attractive, draw better quality athletes, but to also bring more students in here, and be the university I know it can be."
The field house is set to open next summer.
