PSU Bus Catches Fire

Pittsburg State University students on their way to the annual Fraternal Leadership Summit in Overland Park got a surprise at about 7 a.m. this morning when their bus caught fire just north of Arma on U.S. 69. The students, members of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, quickly exited the bus and waited a safe distance away while emergency responders extinguished the flames. There were no injuries.

PSU President Steve Scott was among other members of the PSU community following the bus to the summit. He waited with the young women while another bus was dispatched to take them on to Overland Park.

Dr. Scott expressed relief that there were no injuries and he complimented the women for their calm reaction to the incident. Scott also thanked emergency responders who were on the scene quickly to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the students.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
