PSU Breaks Ground on Indoor Event Center

Dirt was turned Tuesday morning at Pittsburg State University to celebrate the groundbreaking of their new indoor event center named after one the school's most generous donors, Robert W. Plaster. President Steve Scott tells News Talk KZRG it's an exciting opportunity for everyone in the community.

"To have an indoor 300-meter track is pretty special. To have a hundred yards of turf in the middle of that and then encompass that with the economic impact development opportunities of doing boat shows, trade shows, home shows, it just really offers a lot of benefits not only for the campus, for the community."

Mayor Michael Gray shared the same sentiment, beliving the facility will have a major economic impact on the city for years to come.

"We're going to be able to bring events into the city that we never have been able to before. Those kinds of opportunities will be more and more. This will open doors for us to do things in town and bring people to our community that we've never been able to bring here before."

The new 154,000 square foot facility that features an indoor track and seating for 1,500 will open next spring.
