Old Joplin Coke Factory Could be Future Home of Consolidated Post Office

News Talk KZRG told you Monday about the Joplin Redevelopment Corporation buying the old Joplin Coca-Cola Plant at 1301 Virginia. Now we know what the plans for that property are, thanks to Master Developer David Wallace.

"We started talking, early on, about the consolidation of the two post offices on Main Street. The southern one, by virtue of the tornado, has suffered a loss in activity as many of its customers no longer receiving mail because they lost their homes. We've spoken with the USPS on this. The post office is losing $12 million or so a day, that's a lot of money, so they're looking at ways to consolidate, to save money, and be more efficient. We've got a pharmaceutical company already interested in the southern location, and the northern one is part of the master plan that includes a performance hall and amphitheater."

Wallace adds that we may not know whether that will actually happen for quite some time, as the plan will require federal approval to move forward.
