Joplin's Mayor Pro Tem is taking issue with a local newspaper's report on last night's Joplin City Council meeting. Bill Scearce tells News Talk KZRG his comments after finding out Wallace Bajjali would be buying property for a senior housing project using public funds were taken out of context.
"I made a statement after listening to the way the finances was presented, that it was a 'pretty good deal.' I meant it was a good deal for them, not for the City of Joplin. I believe the amount of money that we were putting into the public and private partnership was in excess, and will put the City at risk. I don't take issue with the project, just how it was financed."
Scearce says that's why he was the lone vote against the agreement, which is a detail he adds was not mentioned in the report in question.
