MO Lawmaker Argues for Expungement of Certain Cases

One of the next steps likely to be taken in rewriting Missouri's criminal laws could involve erasing some convictions from the court record, a process called expungement. Senator Brad Lager says nonviolent crimes should not haunt a person forever.

"The reality is there are times where good people, unfortunately, do silly things, and there's no reason that should plague them for life."

One of Lager's young staffers was arrested, printed, and photographed for missing a court date to get an erroneously-issued traffic ticket cancelled. He says that's not the kind of thing that should show up in background checks for the rest of that person's life.
