Joplin Sales Tax Revenue Update

Joplin's sales tax revenues for June are down 17 percent, but the bigger picture looks better.

"For the fiscal year, we are basically flat.  We're up 0.16%."

Joplin finance director Leslie Haase tells News Talk KZRG while June's revenues are down, in May, sales tax revenue was up 42%.  "We never look at one month.  We look at the year to date change over a time period. So right now, we're basically right on with budget."

Haase says one reason for the swings is timing; when money arrives at the state office determines when the state can pay it out to cities.
