JPD Issues Emergency Road Conditions Alert

Stay off the road if possible today. An early morning batch of wintry precipitation means slick roads, which has caused the Joplin Police Department to issue an Emergency Road Conditions Alert. Sgt. Rusty Rives says it's as much for the public as it is for officers:

"If it's slick for other people to be on the road, it's also slick for us. So we want to make sure we limit any injuries and hope people will use common sense when driving. The roadways themselves aren't bad but the ice is maintaining on a lot of the bridges, and we're seeing some drivers slide off. We've seen a couple of rollovers, no serious injuries."

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Four States today. If you do have to drive, be especially careful around bridges, ramps, and overpasses.
