The Children's Haven of Southwest Missouri, a shelter that provides temporary housing to kids in a time of crisis received an $85,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri. Development Coordinator Liz Erickson tells News Talk KZRG the funds will go towards the expenses they accrued since the tornado two years ago.
"We had an increase in the care that we were providing to kids who were directly affected by the tornado, and those monies just came out of our budget and weren't reimbursed. So they were able to step in and fill that gap."
In addition, they received a second grant worth $10,000 through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
"Those monies are specifically to care for teenagers ages 13-17 who come in here for crisis care."
The Children's Haven has been in the transistion of moving into a bigger place, doubling the amount of kids they can help per night, which should be ready by the end of the month. Their current home can house 12 kids. The new facility will be able to sleep 24 kids.
